From the Auld Grey Toun
to the Royal Mile
Five nights on The Scores in St Andrews, two minutes on foot from the first tee of the Old Course. Then three nights at No. 1 Princes Street in Edinburgh, where the Old Town meets the New. Six championship rounds link the two, with an Old Course ballot entry on every eligible St Andrews day.
The golf is front-loaded on purpose. Four rounds from your St Andrews base, a fifth on the drive south at Largo Bay, and a sixth on the East Lothian coast. That leaves a full day for Edinburgh itself: the castle, the closes, and a proper farewell dinner.
- The New Course, Old Tom Morris's 1895 links beside the Old
- Kingsbarns Golf Links, Kyle Phillips's modern classic on the North Sea
- Carnoustie Championship, eight-time host of The Open
- The Castle Course, clifftop golf above St Andrews Bay
- Dumbarnie Links, Clive Clark's dune-lined newcomer on the Firth of Forth
- North Berwick West Links, est. 1832, home of the original Redan
- Old Course ballot entered every eligible day (see below)
- Seaton House St Andrews · The Balmoral Edinburgh
The Kingdom of Fife meets Scotland's capital
Barely fifty miles separate St Andrews and Edinburgh, and in between lies the deepest run of links golf anywhere. One town where seven courses share a starter's hut. One city built on a volcano, with a medieval Old Town and a Georgian New Town that together form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We've paced this journey so you get a real taste of both.
The Old Course is not guaranteed
The Old Course allocates its visitor tee times through a daily ballot, and that ballot is the route Mosaico uses to pursue access for you. We do not hold guaranteed Old Course tee times on this itinerary.
For each eligible day of your St Andrews stay, our concierge enters your group's names, home clubs and handicaps two days ahead of play. If your name is drawn, we rearrange that day's round to free you for the Old. If not, your confirmed round goes ahead as planned and we enter you again for the next eligible day. The Old Course is closed on Sundays.
Six confirmed championship rounds, whatever the ballot does. The Old Course, if it falls your way, is the bonus.
Your Detailed Mosaic
Nine days, six confirmed rounds, and a daily pursuit of the Old Course. Any St Andrews round can give way to the Old should the ballot fall your way.
Arrival · St Andrews
Welcome to the Home of Golf
Private transfer from Edinburgh Airport (about 1 hr 20 min) to Seaton House on The Scores, overlooking the West Sands and a two-minute walk from the first tee of the Old Course. Stretch your legs on a guided town walk past the R&A Clubhouse, the Swilcan Bridge and the cathedral ruins, then settle in for a welcome dinner at Ondine Oyster & Grill, the hotel's seafood restaurant.
Round One · The Links
The New Course
The ideal opener, a short walk from the hotel and laid out alongside the Old. Old Tom Morris designed it in 1895 when the Old Course grew too crowded, and many locals quietly call it their favourite: tighter, more defined, with a superb set of par 3s. Lunch at the Jigger Inn, the old stationmaster's cottage beside the 17th. Old Course ballot in play.
Round Two · Fife Coast
Kingsbarns Golf Links
Fifteen minutes down the coast. Kyle Phillips's Kingsbarns opened in 2000 and went straight into the world rankings, with the North Sea in view from almost every shot. It co-hosts the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship each autumn alongside the Old Course and Carnoustie. Back in town by late afternoon for a walk on the West Sands. Old Course ballot in play.

Round Three · Angus
Carnoustie Championship Links
North across the Tay to the links they call "Carnasty." Eight Opens have been decided here, from Hogan in 1953 to the 1999 drama at the Barry Burn. The closing stretch from 16 to 18 is as demanding a finish as championship golf offers. Lunch in the clubhouse before the drive back to St Andrews. Old Course ballot in play.
Round Four · St Andrews Bay
The Castle Course · A Last St Andrews Evening
A change of character. David McLay Kidd's 2008 clifftop design sits on a headland two miles east of town, with views back across the bay to the St Andrews skyline. Bold and sweeping where the Old is ancient and subtle. Your final St Andrews evening is yours: a dram at Bow Butts Bar in the hotel, or a pint among the memorabilia at the Dunvegan. Old Course ballot in play.
Round Five · St Andrews to Edinburgh
Dumbarnie Links · On to the Capital
Check out and head south along the Fife coast to Largo Bay. Dumbarnie Links, designed by former Ryder Cup player Clive Clark on the Balcarres Estate, opened in 2020 and hosted the Women's Scottish Open a year later. Generous fairways, risk and reward from nearly every tee, and the Firth of Forth in view throughout. After lunch in the clubhouse it is about an hour to The Balmoral at No. 1 Princes Street. Tonight, a first dram at SCOTCH, the hotel's whisky bar.
Round Six · East Lothian
North Berwick West Links
Forty-five minutes east to one of the most beloved links in the game. Golf has been played here since 1832: stone walls in play, blind shots over the dunes, the Bass Rock on the horizon, and the par-3 15th, the original Redan that architects have been copying ever since. A fitting final round. Back in Edinburgh, the evening is free for dinner in the New Town.
Edinburgh · At Leisure
The Old Town & the New · Farewell Dinner
The clubs stay in the bag. A private guided walk takes you up to Edinburgh Castle, down the Royal Mile and through the closes to Greyfriars Kirkyard. The afternoon is open: afternoon tea at Palm Court, the shops of George Street, or a climb up Calton Hill for the view. The journey closes with a farewell dinner at Number One, The Balmoral's flagship restaurant.
Departure · Edinburgh
A Final Morning · Edinburgh Airport
A slow breakfast under the Balmoral clock, then a private transfer to Edinburgh Airport, about thirty minutes away. Your concierge handles luggage and check-out. Safe travels.

Seaton House
The Scores · St Andrews · Fife
A 42-room seafront hotel on The Scores, fully restored behind its historic facade and set above the West Sands. The first tee of the Old Course and the R&A Clubhouse are a two-minute walk away. Dine at Ondine Oyster & Grill, graze in The Board Room, and end the night with a dram at Bow Butts Bar.
The Balmoral
No. 1 Princes Street · Edinburgh
Edinburgh's landmark grand hotel since 1902, a Rocco Forte property standing where the Old Town meets the New, beside Waverley Station. Its clock tower is part of the city skyline. Inside: Number One for fine dining, Brasserie Prince, afternoon tea at Palm Court, and SCOTCH, a whisky bar pouring more than 500 Scottish malts.
