From the Home of Golf
to the Highland coast
Two regions, one journey. Three nights steps from the 1st tee of the Old Course at St Andrews, followed by five nights on the Moray Firth, base camp for the Highlands' most celebrated links. Seven championship rounds, including multiple daily ballot attempts at the Old Course itself.
The Fife half is anchored by Rusacks St Andrews, a stylish boutique hotel overlooking the 18th fairway of the Old Course, moments from the R&A Clubhouse, with Kingsbarns ten minutes south and three full days inside the daily Old Course ballot window. The Highland half is built around Royal Dornoch, currently ranked World #2 by Golf Digest International, with Castle Stuart, Tom Doak's brand-new Old Petty (opened May 2026), and the Walker Cup-tested Nairn within forty-five minutes of your hotel. You fly in through Edinburgh and home from Inverness, so there is no backtracking.
- Kingsbarns Golf Links, Kyle Phillips, World Top 25
- Three daily ballot entries for the Old Course (not guaranteed; the New and Eden Courses are your confirmed St Andrews rounds)
- Royal Dornoch Championship, World #2, GB&I #5
- Castle Stuart Golf Links, Hanse & Parsinen, four-time Scottish Open host
- Old Petty, Tom Doak / Renaissance Design, opened May 2026
- Nairn Golf Club, GB&I #38, World #95, 1999 Walker Cup

The Kingdom of Fife meets
the Moray Firth
Few golf countries on earth let you stand on a Fife links in the afternoon and a Highland clifftop a few days later. Scotland is one of them. The drive north from St Andrews runs up the A9 through Perthshire and the Cairngorms, roughly three hours of cinematic Scotland on the way from the only town where seven championship courses share a single starter's hut to the coast where Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart and Nairn wait. We designed this trip to give you both, and to end where your flight home leaves from.
The Old Course
is not guaranteed
The Old Course at St Andrews has been holding a daily ballot for visitor tee times since long before commercial golf travel existed, and it is the only way Mosaico can pursue access for you. We do not hold guaranteed Old Course tee times.
On each of your three ballot days at Rusacks St Andrews, our St Andrews concierge enters your group's names, home clubs, and handicaps into the Links Trust ballot ahead of that day's deadline. If your name is drawn, we rearrange that day's plan to free you for the Old. If not, the day continues as scheduled on the New or Eden Course, and we re-enter you for the next eligible day.
Your third and final ballot day is the morning you leave for the Highlands. If you are drawn that morning, we simply move the drive north to the afternoon. The ballot is a lottery and we cannot promise the result, but over three consecutive entries the cumulative probability is meaningfully higher than any single day.
For guests who would rather not leave the Old Course to chance, we can also pursue a guaranteed tee time through our network of St Andrews Links Trust authorized partners. If secured, this is a $3,500 per person add-on, subject to allocation availability at time of booking. The earlier you let us know, the better our odds.
Seven championship rounds regardless of the ballot. However, if the Old Course ballot hits, the entire town will surely know about it.
Your Detailed Mosaic
Arrival · Edinburgh to St Andrews
Welcome to the Home of Golf · Kingsbarns Golf Links
Private transfer from Edinburgh Airport (1hr 20 min) north across the Forth to Rusacks St Andrews, overlooking the 18th fairway of the Old Course and moments from the 1st tee. Settle in, then a late-afternoon round at Kingsbarns, ten minutes south. Kyle Phillips's 2000 masterpiece has the North Sea in view from virtually every shot, ranks World Top 25 and co-hosts the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Welcome dinner back in town at Rusacks, with a single-malt flight to mark the start of your Scottish chapter. Old Course ballot entered for your first ballot days.
St Andrews · Ballot Day 1
The Auld Grey Toun
If your name is drawn, today is the Old Course. If not, you play the New Course, Old Tom Morris's 1895 design, a classic test of links golf a short walk from the hotel. Whichever course the day brings, the afternoon is for the town: a guided walk past the R&A Clubhouse, the Swilcan Bridge, the British Golf Museum and the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral, with lunch at the Jigger Inn. Old Course ballot entered for Day 4.
St Andrews · Ballot Day 2
Second Chance at the Auld Grey Lady
Another ballot day. If you are drawn, the Old Course is yours. If not, you play the Eden Course, Harry Colt's 1914 design along the Eden Estuary, a beautiful and underrated round. The afternoon is yours: a caddie-shed visit, the West Sands at sunset, or a pint at the Jigger Inn.
Final Ballot · Transfer to the Highlands
Last Chance at the Old, then North
The third and final ballot day, and also the morning to try the starter's queue at first light. The Old Course holds back a handful of single-player and walk-up slots most days. If the Old comes through, we move the drive north to the afternoon. Otherwise, a mid-morning private transfer heads north up the A9 through Perthshire and the Cairngorms (roughly three hours), with an optional distillery stop along the way, timing permitting. You arrive at the Nairn Golf View Hotel & Spa, which sits on the shores of the Moray Firth where manicured gardens meet the beach and panoramic sea views stretch toward the Black Isle. Unwind in the award-winning Coast Spa and enjoy locally inspired dining at Hickory Restaurant.
Round Four · Royal Dornoch
Royal Dornoch Championship
Forty-five minutes north along the Sutherland coast. The course Tom Watson called the most fun he has ever had on a golf course, and currently World #2 (Golf Digest International, 2024) and GB&I #5 (Golf World Top 100). Old Tom Morris's 1886 routing remains essentially unchanged: gorse-flanked corridors, raised plateau greens, and the famous "Foxy" 14th, the only par-4 in championship golf with neither bunker nor water in its defence. Lunch in the Royal Dornoch clubhouse before the unhurried drive back.
Round Five · Castle Stuart
Castle Stuart Golf Links
Twenty minutes east of the hotel along the Moray Firth. Gil Hanse and Mark Parsinen's 2009 collaboration, host of the Scottish Open in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016. A modern links built on a ribbon of coast between sea and dune, with the firth in play on virtually every hole and Castle Stuart itself rising behind the sixth green. Lunch in the white-stucco, art-deco clubhouse overlooking the 18th.
Round Six · Old Petty
Old Petty
A round on the most-anticipated new opening in modern Scottish golf. Tom Doak and Renaissance Design's Old Petty opened on 15 May 2026 on the dunes immediately adjacent to Castle Stuart, ranked Scotland #34 by Today's Golfer in its debut season. Pure Doak: minimalist routing, fast-and-firm playing surfaces, putting greens that reward the imagination. A unique opportunity to walk a course before the rest of the world has caught up to it.
Round Seven · Nairn
Nairn Golf Club
A morning round at Nairn, twenty minutes east of Inverness on the south shore of the Moray Firth. GB&I #38, World #95 (Golf Digest), and host of the 1999 Walker Cup. Nairn has the rare distinction of having the firth visible from all eighteen holes, and the strategic 4th, playing along the beach toward the Black Isle, is the most photographed hole on the Highland coast. A relaxed Highland afternoon follows: an optional Cawdor Castle visit, a Speyside whisky tasting, or a slow loch-side drive, before a farewell dinner at one of Inverness's Speyside-led restaurants.
Departure · Inverness
Farewell to the Highlands
A final Highland breakfast at the Nairn Golf View Hotel & Spa before private transfer to Inverness Airport (15 min) for onward flights. Your concierge handles luggage and check-out, so your morning is unhurried.
Three St Andrews Rounds. Four Highlands Rounds
Seven championship rounds, including the daily ballot pursuit of the Old Course, the most sacred name on this list.
