From Atlantic dunes
to golden Algarve
Portugal has quietly become one of the world's great golf destinations — 300 days of sun, extraordinary courses, and a culture of hospitality that makes every day feel unhurried and generous. This Mosaic Journey traces the country's western coast from north to south, through three of its most compelling landscapes.
Comporta — Portugal's most fashionable coastal escape — is home to Dunas, the #1 ranked course in the country and #6 in Continental Europe, and its younger sibling Torre, Sergio Garcia's debut design in the Atlantic dunes. From there, the journey winds through the ancient cork forests and wine estates of Alentejo before descending to the Algarve — where Quinta do Lago, Old Vilamoura and Monte Rei complete a circuit of Portugal's greatest championship golf.
- Dunas — Portugal #1, Continental Europe #6, David McLay-Kidd's links masterpiece
- Torre — Sergio Garcia's debut design, opened 2025, in the Comporta dunes
- Quinta do Lago South — Portugal #3, 8× Portuguese Open host
- Old Vilamoura — Portugal's Best Golf Course 2025, Frank Pennink's 1969 classic
- Monte Rei — Portugal #2, Jack Nicklaus Signature, mountain and ocean vistas
- Alentejo wine tour en route — cork forests, private quintas, and exceptional reds
Europe's most exciting golf frontier
Portugal now claims three of Continental Europe's top ten courses — and all five on this Mosaic Journey rank in the country's top ten. The Atlantic coast provides firm, fast links conditions at Comporta; the Algarve's microclimate delivers 300 days of sunshine. Between them, the unhurried grandeur of Alentejo — one of Europe's last great unspoilt wine regions — offers a day apart that stays with you as long as any round.
Your Detailed Mosaic
Eight days threading three of Portugal's most extraordinary landscapes — from Atlantic dunes to ancient wine country to the golden Algarve.
Comporta, Alentejo Coast
Arrive Lisbon · Transfer to Comporta · Sublime Comporta · Welcome Dinner
Fly into Lisbon and your Mosaico private transfer takes you one hour south along the coast to Comporta — Portugal's most quietly fashionable seaside destination. Past the Sado Estuary and into the cork-tree-lined roads of the Alentejo coast, Sublime Comporta reveals itself as something genuinely special: a luxury eco-resort woven into the umbrella pines, its thatched-roof villas barely visible against the natural landscape. Settle in, explore the resort's pool and private beach access, and gather for a Welcome Dinner that sets the tone for the week ahead.
Terras da Comporta, Grândola
Dunas — Portugal's #1 Golf Course
The finest round in Portugal awaits. Dunas — designed by David McLay-Kidd of Bandon Dunes and Machrihanish Dunes fame — opened in 2023 and immediately claimed Portugal's top ranking (#6 in Continental Europe, #1 in Portugal). Set across 84 hectares of natural Atlantic dunes alongside Praia do Pego beach, the par-71 links-style course features Festuca-grass fairways framed by natural sand waste areas, large undulating greens, and a design philosophy that deliberately evokes the great Scottish seaside courses. The practice facilities are set up to tournament standard. This is a course that has arrived fully formed at the very summit of European golf.
Terras da Comporta, Alcácer do Sal
Torre — Sergio Garcia's Debut Design · Farewell Comporta Dinner
The sister course to Dunas, and one of the most eagerly anticipated openings in European golf. Torre was designed by Sergio Garcia — his first full design project — drawing deliberate inspiration from his favourite course, Valderrama. The result: narrow fairways, small precise greens, risk-and-reward holes across 41.4 hectares of Comporta's natural dune landscape, with views of the Sado Estuary framing the back nine. Opened summer 2025 and already ranked Portugal's #10 course. After the round, the afternoon belongs to Comporta village — rice paddies, horse-drawn carts and pristine white beaches — before the group gathers for a Farewell Comporta Dinner at Sublime's celebrated restaurant.
Alentejo · En Route to the Algarve
Alentejo Wine Tour · Transfer to Quinta do Lago
Set the clubs aside for a day that belongs to Portugal's soul. The drive south from Comporta passes through Alentejo — one of Europe's last great unspoilt wine regions, its vast plains covered in cork oaks, olive groves and ancient vineyards producing some of the continent's most distinctive reds. Your Mosaico concierge has arranged a private guided tour of a celebrated Alentejo quinta: a walk through the vineyards, a private cellar tour, and a long tasting lunch of estate wines paired with local bread, presunto and regional cheeses in the shade of cork trees. It is one of the finest afternoons Portugal offers. By evening, the journey continues south to Quinta do Lago and Hotel QDL — the Algarve's most prestigious address.
Quinta do Lago, Almancil
Quinta do Lago South · Portugal's Championship Crown Jewel
The most prestigious round in the Algarve. The South Course at Quinta do Lago — Portugal #3, ranked #3 Continental Europe — was designed by William Mitchell in 1974, hosting the Portuguese Open eight times; Colin Montgomerie's 1989 win here set a record at 24-under-par. Completely renovated in 2020-21 with a €7m investment, the course now plays through umbrella pines, bold new bunkering, upgraded lakes and Bermuda-grass fairways in immaculate condition. Set against the backdrop of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, with ocean glimpses beyond the back nine lakes — it is the Algarve's most iconic round. The Hotel Quinta do Lago, a Leading Hotels of the World member directly on the resort estate, is your base throughout.
Vilamoura, Quarteira
Old Vilamoura — Portugal's Best Golf Course 2025
The Grande Dame of the Algarve. Frank Pennink's Old Course at Vilamoura — opened in 1969, making it the second oldest course in the Algarve — has recently been transformed: a new clubhouse of real elegance, a driving range with TrackMan technology on every bay, reseeded fairways and greens, and a comprehensive conditioning upgrade. The result was Portugal's Best Golf Course at the 2025 World Golf Awards. The layout winds through stands of mature umbrella pines with gently undulating terrain — strategic, forgiving enough for all abilities, yet deeply satisfying for the accomplished player. Everything about Old Vilamoura now feels first class, from the personalised bag tag at arrival to the complimentary champagne after the round.
Monte Rei, Eastern Algarve
Monte Rei — Jack Nicklaus Signature · Farewell Dinner
The grand finale. An hour's drive east from Quinta do Lago, Monte Rei's Jack Nicklaus Signature course sits in the rolling foothills of the Serra do Caldeirão, with sweeping mountain views to the north and the Atlantic Ocean visible to the south. This is Portugal's #2 ranked course and the country's only Jack Nicklaus Signature layout — a par-72 with water on 11 holes, five par-5s, and bunkering of extraordinary ambition. The level of service here is the Algarve's most rarefied: valet parking, complimentary bag tag, range balls and personalised waters all included. After the round, the Farewell Dinner back at Hotel QDL marks the end of an extraordinary Portuguese journey.
Faro — Departure
Morning at Leisure · Faro Airport
A final Algarve morning — coffee by the pool at Hotel QDL, a last walk through the Ria Formosa, or simply a slow breakfast before your Mosaico concierge arranges the private transfer to Faro Airport, just 15 minutes away. You leave having played five of Portugal's finest courses, tasted the wines of Alentejo, and experienced two of the country's most extraordinary hotels. Safe travels.

Day 4 · The Interlude
Alentejo —
Portugal's Soul
Between Comporta and the Algarve lies one of the most quietly extraordinary wine regions in the world. Alentejo's vast plains — cork oaks, olive trees, ancient walled villages — produce powerful, characterful reds that have reshaped Portugal's wine identity over the past two decades. Your Mosaico concierge has arranged a private half-day at a celebrated quinta: vineyard walking tour, cellar visit, and a long lunch of estate wines paired with presunto, queijo de ovelha and the bread that exists nowhere else quite like this. It is the day that golfers often say they remember as clearly as any round.
