Five weeks of Kenya,
at its most uncompromising
This is not the standard Kenya. The standard Kenya is the Maasai Mara — a remarkable place, but increasingly busy, and the route every first-time safari traveller takes. This is the journey for the traveller who has either already done the Mara, or who knows enough to skip it entirely the first time. The destination is Laikipia.
The Laikipia Plateau, north of Mount Kenya, holds the highest concentration of private wildlife conservancies on the African continent — and arguably the most sophisticated conservation infrastructure anywhere in the world. Twenty-five nights across five of its defining properties: Lodo Springs on Loisaba, Kuki Gallmann's Suyian Lodge on the original Gallmann conservancy, Sirikoi on Lewa (where the British royal family stays), Jochen Zeitz's Segera Retreat with its contemporary African art collection, and Lengishu — the private exclusive-use house on Borana that may be the most architecturally significant home in East Africa. Then five nights at Angama Amboseli for Kilimanjaro and the elephant herds, and a closing six nights at Alfajiri Garden Villas on the Indian Ocean. Seven properties, three regions, thirty-seven days. The ultimate Kenya journey.
- 4 nights Lodo Springs · Loisaba Conservancy (58,000 acres, partnered with The Nature Conservancy)
- 6 nights Suyian Lodge · Kuki Gallmann's Laikipia Nature Conservancy

- 5 nights Segera Retreat · Jochen Zeitz's 50,000-acre Laikipia conservancy
- 5 nights Lengishu · private 6-bedroom exclusive-use house on Borana
- 5 nights Angama Amboseli · Kilimanjaro views, the iconic Amboseli dawn
- 6 nights Alfajiri Garden Villas · private clifftop villa on Diani Beach
- Six private charter flights and a fully managed Mosaico concierge throughout
The plateau, the mountain,
and the ocean.
Most Kenya trips visit one part of Kenya. This journey honours three — and gives each the time it deserves. Twenty-five nights of Laikipia, the most conservation-defined landscape on the continent. Five nights of Amboseli, the iconic Kilimanjaro frame. And six nights of Diani, the white-sand decompression that closes the chapter. Three regions. Three rhythms. One uninterrupted journey.
The most concentrated
conservation landscape
in Africa
Laikipia is the great quiet story of African conservation. A plateau the size of Wales, sitting between Mount Kenya and the Northern Frontier, broken into a mosaic of private wildlife conservancies that — collectively — hold more rhino, the only viable wild population of Grévy's zebra, and the largest single concentration of elephant on private land anywhere on the continent. The conservancies you'll visit on this journey are the defining names: Loisaba (The Nature Conservancy), Kuki Gallmann's original Laikipia conservancy, Lewa (UNESCO World Heritage, the British royal family's chosen lodge), Segera (Jochen Zeitz's private 50,000 acres with the contemporary African art collection), and Borana (joined with Lewa, home to the architectural exclamation mark of Lengishu).
Twenty-five nights across five of them. Each property in private hands, each with its own conservation programme, each with a different ecology, light and topography. The result is that by Week Three you'll have a working understanding of how private conservation actually functions in Africa — not the abstract version, but the daily version, lived alongside the people who run it.
This is the journey for travellers who already know Africa, or who want to skip directly to its highest expression. Twenty-five nights of Laikipia is not the standard safari — it is the deep one.
Your Detailed Mosaic
Five weeks structured around the natural rhythms of each property — each chapter long enough to settle in, deep enough to know the wildlife and the people, and varied enough that every transition feels earned.
Arrival · Loisaba · Laikipia North
Lodo Springs & Suyian Lodge
Arrive Nairobi (NBO) and transfer to Wilson Airport for the morning charter north — 50 minutes by Cessna Caravan to the Loisaba airstrip on the 58,000-acre Loisaba Conservancy. Lodo Springs (4 nights) is the newest of the Loisaba lodges, with eight tented suites set in a kopje overlooking the Ewaso N'giro plains. Twice-daily game drives, walking safaris with the resident guide, optional fly camp under the stars, and the conservancy's celebrated star bed experience (a rolled-out platform under the open sky). On Day 5, a 40-minute road transfer brings you to Kuki Gallmann's Suyian Lodge (3 of 6 nights), on the original Laikipia Nature Conservancy north of Loisaba — six private cottages, the kind of personal, family-run hospitality that defined this region long before luxury brands arrived.
Suyian · Lewa · Northern Laikipia
Suyian Lodge & Sirikoi on Lewa
Three more nights at Suyian Lodge — by now you'll have settled in to Kuki Gallmann's quiet rhythms: morning conservation walks, anti-poaching patrol days with the rangers, time with the Suyian conservation team on the rhino sanctuary, evenings around the fire with the family. On Day 11, a private charter takes you east-southeast to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, arriving at Sirikoi (4 of 5 nights) — the owner-operated property of the Roberts family, six private cottages plus two family houses set in a riverine setting that has become the most beloved address in East African safari, hosting the Cambridges in 2019 and the Sussexes' engagement. Lewa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the original sanctuary for Grévy's zebra and a critical refuge for black and white rhino — Sirikoi's game drives reflect that emphasis.
Sirikoi · Segera · Lengishu
Lewa · Segera Retreat · Borana
A final night at Sirikoi, then private charter west to Jochen Zeitz's Segera Retreat (5 nights) — the 50,000-acre private conservancy from the former Puma CEO and founder of the Zeitz Foundation. Six villas set in an exquisite garden among acacia, with the largest privately-held contemporary African art collection in East Africa woven through every public space and a working biodynamic farm supplying the kitchen. The land here is restoration — Segera bought a degraded ranch in 2005 and has rewilded it over two decades to a now-thriving ecosystem. Twice-daily game drives, walking safaris, optional helicopter excursions to Mount Kenya, and the rare experience of touring the art collection with the curator. On Day 20, private charter east to Borana Conservancy and Lengishu (1 of 5 nights) — the six-bedroom private exclusive-use house designed by Dougie Adam, sole use only, the architectural exclamation mark of East African private hospitality.
Lengishu · Borana · Amboseli
Lengishu & Angama Amboseli
Four more nights at Lengishu — sole use of the entire six-bedroom house, your own chef, your own guides, your own Land Cruiser fleet. Borana joined with Lewa in 2014 to form one of the largest contiguous rhino habitats in East Africa; the conservancy's "fenceless" partnership with Lewa means your game drives roam across both. Optional helicopter day to Lake Turkana, the Mathews Range, or Mount Kenya summit. On Day 26, the long charter day — Lewa airstrip back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi (arrival 13:15), a connecting charter south to Amboseli, and arrival at Angama Amboseli (3 of 5 nights) by late afternoon. The shift in landscape is total: from the green plateau and rhino-walking pace of Borana to the swampy plains and elephant herds beneath Kilimanjaro. Two final Laikipia evenings; three first Amboseli days.
Amboseli · Diani Beach · Departure
Angama Amboseli & Alfajiri Garden Villas
Two final nights at Angama Amboseli — the sunrise game drives with Kilimanjaro materialising through the dawn, the elephant family encounters that Amboseli's most-studied population is known for, the deck of the lodge with the mountain framed directly through the architecture. On Day 31, private charter from Kimana airstrip directly to Ukunda (Diani) on the south coast — and the Indian Ocean. Alfajiri Garden Villas (6 nights) is the most secluded of the three Alfajiri villa configurations, set in the property's clifftop garden behind makuti palms and away from the beach edge, with the resident Italian chef preparing every meal and a small staff of butlers, gardeners and housekeepers for sole use. Six nights of the slow rhythm: dhow sailing, snorkelling on the Diani reef, the spa pavilion, beach dinners under the stars, the final long farewell. Day 37 brings the return flight north to Nairobi for international departure.
Seven Iconic Addresses
Five Laikipia lodges representing the defining names in private East African conservation, plus Angama Amboseli for Kilimanjaro and Alfajiri Garden Villas for the Indian Ocean coast. No property repeated; no chapter compromised.
Three Defining Rituals
Beyond the daily game drives — three set-piece experiences that the long form of this journey makes possible.
Weeks 1–3 · Laikipia
Rhino Walking Safari
Both Lewa and Borana are anchored by black and white rhino populations — and both conservancies offer guided rhino walks with rangers, on foot, at close range, with deep on-the-ground context about anti-poaching and ecosystem management. Over five weeks across these properties, the walks become genuinely habitual — and you leave understanding rhino conservation in Africa from the perspective of the people running it.
Week 3 · Segera
Curator-Led Art Tour
Jochen Zeitz's contemporary African art collection at Segera is the largest privately-held collection of its kind in East Africa, woven through every public space and many of the villas. Guests at Segera can request a guided tour with the curator — an intimate walk through works by artists ranging from El Anatsui to Wangechi Mutu, in the context of the conservancy's broader Zeitz Foundation mission.
Week 5 · Diani Beach
Six Nights of Slow
After five weeks of properties, charter flights and game drives, the six final nights at Alfajiri Garden Villas are the antidote: sole use of a private clifftop villa, the resident Italian chef preparing meals at your pace, dhow sailing on the marine reserve, beach dinners under the stars, and the kind of stillness that only the end of a long, deep trip can produce.
